Orthopedics and Traumatology

The combination of orthopedics and traumatology is composed of Latin words. Ortho (orthos) means a decent and a pedios means a child. Traumatology is also a Latin word and means injury. Orthopedics looks at the disorders of the system that creates the movement, while traumatology treats injuries. In order to become a Orthopedics and Traumatology Specialist in Turkey, after 6 years of medical education, 5-year specialization is required.  To become an expert, you must win TUS (Medical Examination). An orthopedics and traumatologist takes a total of 10 years of medical education.

Orthopedics and traumatologists can also be called orthopedists, doctor of orthopedists or orthopedics Specialist. Orthopedics surgeons can perform surgical operations. Most operations include knee arthroplasty for osteoarthritis of the knee joint cartilage, hip prosthesis surgery for hip articular cartilage, meniscus, anterior cruciate ligament injuries, arthroscopic surgery for shoulder ankle problems.  Fractures, sprains, spinal curvatures, heel spurs, nail stickers, hallux valgus, such as foot problems, carpal tunnel syndrome, such as nerve compression, hip dislocations, flat fleet, tennis elbow, such as disorders are the specialty of orthopedists.

The only task of orthopedics specialists is not surgical operations. The first choice for all orthopedic disorders shoulder non-surgical treatment methods. In this respect, prolongation of injections such as prolotherapy, PRP, stem cells and other non-surgical treatment methods can be carried out by orthopedic surgeons.
